Why have teachers been neglected in Nepal forever
till to date?
Teacher according to the Hindus philosophy is the
profession of highest rank. But it's great surprise to say that most of the
teachers in Nepal feel themselves as the second category of the
profession. They don't feel proud being
teachers. They are mostly for the salary which is low paid and not enough to
handle hand to mouth problem. The payment is only enough for miscellaneous
expense. If a teacher has his own hut to leave, a cow for milk, a small plot of
garden for spinach and vegetable and a small store of paddy. If not how a
teacher can survive in the city. He/ she has to pay three part of his/her
salary for rent especially in Kathmandu. To hire a flat for family, he/she has
to pay nearly Rs20,000/ per month but a secondary level teacher gets Rs 30500/
peer month. Is it possible to survive with Rs 10500/ ?
Teachers have been neglected due to their own
performance. They don't seem to be independent themselves. 18 categories of
teachers have been appointed by the government here in Nepal in community
schools but later the bureaucracy, political leaders, even the people in
community and others blame them for not being able to give good performance especially
in the SLC but now SEE examination. Teachers from 2036 have been in revolution
demanding for permanency, increase in salary and payment equal to the
bureaucracy and so on. But every time when the new government is formed, they
don't seem to be ready to provide them facilities and the teachers who are
teaching at community school do not believe in their own performance and send
their kids to private school. One the one hand the government and the
bureaucracy talk about the up liftmen of
the community schools but when they have
to appoint teachers and head teachers they forget everything and try to appoint
their puppets. How can they change the schools ' performance? To change the
school performance, teachers and head teachers must be the devoted and honest
teachers by heart. They can change. If not,
it limits in slogan.
When the code of conduct is misinterpreted by the so
called expert, what may be done by the general one who never runs after anyone
else and tries to be independent himself or herself? Does anyone have answer of
this question? So called leaders known as puppet can do nothing it's because
they are vision less. They don't have their own mind. They are pumped by
others. They do what the big brothers command them. How merciless they are.
They seem to be feeble. They seem as if they are the henchmen of the political
parties or other concerned one. There are many teachers' organizations but they
are only for the leaders' sake. The central leaders feel proud being leaders
and travel home and abroad and take snap and post on the face book wall and
deliver big speech when they get the stage. They don't need to go to school and
classes still remain as teachers. Have they ever asked themselves that that
they are working for the teachers? If teachers' leaders and teachers
organizations have educational ethics they can change the politics of nation
only in a wink. But we cannot see that. Even they feel proud that what teachers
are getting today is the outcome of the revolution. It seems as if it is true
but it may not also it's because time it the strongest of all. Time also
changes everything. Even own kitchen setting has been changed during a decade. Small
wooden sitting planks have been replaced mostly by the chairs and tables. We
hardly see the man with Dhoti while having lunch and dinner. Who have brought those
changes?
Leaders may feel bad if I say that whatever
condition that is seen in community is the output of the failure of so called teacher's
leaders. Teachers' organizations were in existence in the fiftieth but they
could not compel the government to result out of the teachers' exam taken in
2052 by which so many teachers returned home with empty hand. They seemed as if they were voiceless for a
decade. It's a great satire that if they said they did a lot for the teachers'
sake. Yes they did. They went abroad and enjoyed visiting some countries and still
feel proud of remembering the event they took part in. But what they saw is
only in their mind but they did not try to change own yard. Instead they try
their best to create their henchmen but not the capable one. They gave the responsibility
mostly to the ones who obey them without question. Moreover primary and lower
secondary class teachers are being the head teachers of secondary schools even
in Kathmandu. Having the fear in mind
that they will be replaced by the other qualified teachers they are letting
their institution backward not promoting to 11 and 12 classes thinking that
their post of head teachers will be grabbed by others. Due to the reasons many
schools even in urban areas have fewer students more teachers and the
government pays no attention there.
The word teacher itself is holy and of the highest
quality. Teachers' organization should not work as a sister organizations of
any political parties. There should be
only one teachers' organization. If a teacher has a capability and wants to be
the leader of teacher, he/she should get the chance. But now here in Nepal to
be the leader, he/she must be a member of any sister organization of political
parties. Then the leader of sister organization of political parties cannot be
the voice of entire teacher, he /she becomes loyal to the concerned political
party. This is regrettable to this field. It has to be ended for the sake of
teachers and their profession. Teachers should raise voice only for their own benefits
but should raise voice for the entire education system of nation. What a shame
to say that those who achieve D get a chance to study education and they will
be the future teacher. Why teachers organizations don't raise voice for it. Why
teachers organization should not say right person must be in right place.
Sometimes I regret myself while listening that a primary teacher or lower
secondary teacher who was released from the head teacher of the secondary
school, why the concerned political parties didn't save them. Wasn't it satire
upon the education system? How so called leaders delivered speech without
thinking.
If teachers of Nepal united and speak a single voice
for professionalism, every problem that teachers are facing, the government
will be compelled to address. Why teachers cannot say that they do not need
pension but must increase in grown up allowance for all equally. Pension has
been the burden for the entire nation. Bureaucracy, teachers, armies, police and others who are working in government
sectors get pension but other who are working in the field, constructing the
road, or in industries do not get. How it can be resolved. It seems to be
unfair to say from the teachers' point of view but if we are human and have human
sympathy, we should be ready not to get pension in any field. If not why a
farmer who is growing crops for others' livelihood, is not getting pension. He
has to get pension when he is 65 years. Teachers should sow the seeds of knowledge
everywhere and the given knowledge should be changed into skill. If the
knowledge is changed into skill, there will be progress forever. A true teacher
should teach his students that every profession is equally important. Work is
worship should be the motto of every learner. If so, a barbar, a cobbler, a
farmer, a labour , a mechanic and other don't get pension after working for
years. Is it fair or not? Teachers should speak the voice of all but not only
for their own profession. If they try to speak that way and motivate every
student to do what they like can change our society in no time. Treacherous
should be ended and encouragement and equality must flourish in every sector of
human life. Then teachers will be like a Brahman, more or less the one who has
supreme consciousness. A man of supreme consciousness is praised everywhere in
the world. Let it prosper such concept in our yards too.
