Teej

8/23/2014
Dillibazar, Kathmandu, Nepal
Teej, especially married Hindus women festival is coming soon. Near Teej as well as during Teej festival mostly married women and unmarried girls used to get together in one of the yards of villager and sing and dance at late evening after having dinner . Moreover, they used to sing the song of Teej while cutting grass in the meadow or collecting firewood in the forests or working in the field. The song used to narrate happiness and sorrow of human life. More over, it was the time of reunion of married sisters and brothers at maternal home at least once a year. It is a very charming side of this festival. The next beauty of this festival was having Dar, the food eaten at midnight before the day of Teej.
But due to modernization as well as glamorization, women are arranging Dar Party before Teej. Is it justifiable? Or the meaning of word Dar has to be changed in dictionary too. How the newly growing up child knows the meaning of word Dar through practicable way. Are we making them fool or we are being fool ourselves? If your child is at the age of 4/5/6 or seven years and asks you what Dar means? What may be your answer. If you say the right meaning of the word the child knows to speak lie from you it's because you have already arranged Dar party during the day. To preserve our culture is our duty but to distract our culture is unfair and it should be rational. Every child believes that his/her parents are strongest, truest and most lovely too. If a child learns to lie from his/her parents what may be the future of human society? In the same way the Teej songs have also been modernized. The songs of Teej should express sorrow and happiness of human feelings. Hope every concerned one pay attention to the glory of our culture in a rational way. The Teej song that I used to listen when I was child goes: i. Babako Dailamuni Suntala Ghari, Suntalako rasale Vijyo sari......,,ii. Dui hajar bahattar sal saunako Mahina, Pahirole manchhe mareko sun Bahina, iii. Teej aayo vanchhana sabai Maita Janchhan Ma chhori avagi kasko Maita jau? etc. See what a wonderful feelings we can feel in this song. Let's preserve our culture through rational way.
